20th Annual Nantucket Film Festival

Posted by Elizabeth Hughes at

The Nantucket Film Festival was a huge success last week, a blockbuster of an event in its 20th year. This year there were over 75 full length and short films, as well as panel discussions and morning coffee sessions with writers, producers, and directors. Movie-goers and film enthusiasts were in their glory as they could literally go from movie to movie listed on the schedule that spanned almost a full week at four great venues – The Dreamland Theater, Starlight Theater, Bennett Hall, and the Nantucket High School. There was even a screenwriter’s tribute this year at the Siasconset Casino. At the end of the week every one was able vote on their favorite movie; this is providing they had tickets…most movies needed a reserved ticket in advance as it was one of the busiest weeks ever. This year’s Audience Awards went to Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" for Best Narrative Feature, Ron Davis’ "Harry & Snowman" for Best Documentary Feature, and Eric Rockey’s "Pink Boy" for Best Short.

The island was packed for the festival and was a nice prelude into the Fourth of July week where it will get even busier. The weather for most of the week was beautiful and people were out in full force and conversing on Main Street as the summer crowds usually do when they see familiar faces. And of course there was lots of shopping! We saw lots of hip fashion all week long on women young and old alike sporting their Blue Beetle style and love for Nantucket with their ACK Outline Necklace  and Coordinates Collection ION Bracelet . When the sun went down and the cool air and fog rolled over the Grey Lady we saw a lot of our Cashmere Capes  around town. These are also great for your chilly neighborhood theaters when many of the Nantucket Film Festival movies come to your town.

41st Daffodil Festival Weekend

Posted by Elizabeth Hughes at

After a long and cold winter, who could wait for Daffodil Weekend? We certainly couldn’t! It’s the time of year when Main Street wakes up, stores re-open and windows boxes pop with lots of color. It's that special weekend when it feels like spring has finally arrived.

The traditional weekend antique car parade marks the beginning of spring for islanders and visitors alike. This is a wonderful prelude to the dog parade and tailgate party out in Siasconset. The Blue Beetle was in the spirit of the weekend too. Our window were filled with pops of yellow; including raincoats, scarves, and fascinators. Our popular Daffodil charm bead flew out the door. The weekend was a success, the rain held off and fun was had by all.

Here are some of our favorite Daffy moments...
